YouTube Comments Deleted
You posted a comment on our YouTube videos, but it's disappeared. Why? What can you do to solve this problem?
Problem
You write a comment on my YouTube video, you see the comment, so you think everything’s fine.
But then, after a few seconds, or few minutes, you come back, you refresh the page - and it’s gone!
Causes
You might think the channel owner deleted your comment.
Unfortunately, the situation is that your comment was deleted (more precisely, “hidden”) by the YouTube bot. So I cannot even see you made the comment.
After researching this situation, the common causes are:
If you have links to web pages, then that is recognized as spam by the bot (for example, links to tutorials, links to blogs, etc.) - so your comment is deleted
If your comment is promotional, e.g., promoting people to subscribe to your channel, that is also recognized as spam by the bot - so your comment is deleted
I discovered the above after reading 6 Reasons Why YouTube Keeps Deleting Your Comments.
Solution
When writing a YouTube comment:
Don’t include any links to any website pages
Don’t include sentences where you are directly promoting someone to subscribe to your channel
The solutions above were tested and worked in 2023, let’s see how things go in the future. If you find your comment still gets auto-deleted, and there are more scenarios, let me know.
Appendix
Viewers vs channel owners
The rules above apply to viewers. The rules don’t apply to channel owners.
So this means, the channel owner can write any comments - even including links, but the viewer cannot.
Can channel owner allow comments?
As a channel owner, even when ticking boxes to allow all comments, YouTube bot deletes comments without me being able to access them at all. This means, I cannot see your comment at all.
Past Meetup Speakers
If you’re one of our previous speakers (either on Tech Excellence channel or on my Valentina Jemuovic channel) and you want some of your links to be included as a comment, then since the YouTube bot will delete it when you (as a regular viewer) add it, so in that case, send a message me a message to add it.
Other Questions?
If the above doesn’t answer your question, feel free to reach out to me (or comment below) additional questions/comments so that I can further update this page.
Comments with YouTube links get deleted less often than with other links.
Comments with more links get deleted more often than those with only one.
I've seen a post suggesting the assassination of a particular candidate stay up while my far more benign comments would get deleted.
I think posting in rapid succession gets picked up by the bot too.
OPs are less likely to get deleted than replies using the same words...presumably because they're viewed as less antagonistic.
Density of trigger words is also a factor.
Misspelling trigger words
It's a little maddening. You want to talk about serious topics, speaking about specifics, but you can't talk about the specifics of, say, someone's crimes without triggering the bot. It has more than just a superficializing influence. It keeps people from learning about disqualifying attributes of someone they want to see in the highest office in the land. It likely keeps women from learning how to keep themselves safe. It prevents due diligence.
Instead, conversation is kept superficial, dense with generalizations, and biased toward positive appraisals of the OP.
